Easy Stress Relief Techniques

We all face stress. It can come out of nowhere on a warm autumn day or build up over months. The causes are sometimes things you can solve and sometimes it will be something that you unfortunately have no control over. Regardless of the level of stress or the trigger there are steps you can take to combat it and those steps are not so difficult to put into practice. Try them out and you may find the pressure and the worry has melted away.

Focus on the Inner

Concentrate on your body and your mind. A few minutes of meditation can help calm your nerves. If you’ve never meditated before the process is simple. Close your eyes while sitting straight up with your feet on the floor. In your mind or out loud recite a positive mantra like “I am at peace” or “All will be well” and let the stressful thoughts drift away. If you don’t have the time or inclination to meditate take a break and try deep breathing – inhale through your nose feeling the breath as it works its way through you and feeling the reverse as you breathe out through your mouth.

Mentally Confront the Issue

If there is something that can be solved you should take the time to plan a method of attack. Few things cause stress more than lack of preparation. Slow down and focus only on a single thing related to the environment around you – as you achieve that focus let your thoughts slide calmly to the issue at hand. Don’t be afraid to talk yourself through it – that self-dialogue can assist greatly in problem solving.

Be Social

See what your friends are up to. Laughing and having fun are some of the best natural stress relievers and they’re easier to make happen with friends. Human contact can be deeply soothing – even a conversation over the phone can help you gain some perspective – whether you choose to share the nature of your problems or not.

Get Your Blood Pumping

Sitting around doing nothing isn’t going to help. Exercise of any kind can be great at easing anxiety thanks to the mood-lifting chemicals the brain releases from physical activity. Doing some yoga or even just going out for a walk can heighten your state of mind.

Treat Yourself

Go grab your favourite latte or go ahead and have that decadent cupcake. Giving yourself a little bit of pleasure can help the tension slide away. Even better have a spa day and get a facial and a massage!
